LED Lights for Cricket Field (2021 Premium Upgrade)
When it comes to cricket lighting, LED lights are the preferred choice. Cricket lighting helps ensure that the stadium is well illuminated so that the players can play the sport with ease. It provides complete coverage to the entire field and does not leave any room for dark spots. The reason why LED stadium lights are commonly used is because they are more lifespan and energy-efficient as compared to other light sources. They are bright enough to light up even the biggest sporting venues for cricket.
Requirement of Cricket Ground Lighting
The lighting requirement of cricket field is demanding. The lux level required varies different types of cricket stadium. Generally, if the court is for international competition, the lux value will be higher according to the cricket lighting’s compatibility guide.
1. Lux Level (Brightness) Requirement
For general practice and recreational cricket stadiums, we need 250 to 350 lux, which is sufficient for players to have mild competition between the team members. Then, 500 to 750 lux is needed for professional matches. The brightness is higher because the movement is more vigorous. High intensity lighting invigorates the cricket players and thus enhances their performance. For the cricket stadium holding international broadcasting tournament, it takes around the highest standard of 1500 to 2500 lux. It is because it provides clearer environment for photo and video shooting.
2.Total Power of Cricket Field Lighting Needed
Since the radius of the field is about 70 meters, the area is 15,400 m2. Take 750 lux (professional matches) as an example, we will need 15400 x 750 = 11550000 lumens. Since our LED lights have 150 lumens per watt, the minimum power is 11550000 / 150 = 77000 watts. It is a preliminary calculation only. It is strongly recommended to contact our engineers to get the free, professional lighting design opinion.
Cricket Ground Lighting Design
To improve the performance of cricket lighting, it is important to focus on the cricket ground lighting design. A presentable and precise photometric analysis is required. When designing the cricket ground lighting, the designer might also provide you with isoclines. The following should be considered when working on the design.
1.Anti-Glare and Flicker-Free Lighting
For uninterrupted live broadcasting and amazing performance, anti-glare and flicker-free lighting is essential. The lighting fixture needs to have the highest standard.
The common optical on the market used only Reflection Cup and it will be straight light and too much unwanted afterglow. Our cricket stadium lights is with Advanced Optical Lighting Techology-Aluminum optical reflective cup+ Secondary Optical Lenses and High permeability reinforced tempered glass protection. The secondary light distribution design is adopted to minimize the spill light and glare.
Flicker-free illumination is one of the things that you cannot afford to overlook. Our cricket stadium lights it supports a high-speed camera of 5,000 to 6,000 Hz. It provides a flickering rate of under 0.3%. Thus, the change in the lumen is quire negligible which the camera would be unable to detect. Besides flicker-free illumination, anti-glare is also required to reduce the dazzling effect of the illumination on players and the audience. It would also help reduce light pollution.
2.Uniformity and Lighting Levels
For the ultimate cricket lighting, it is important to ensure better lighting uniformity. There is no excuse for lighting getting too bright or dim all of a sudden. It will make everyone feeling uncomfortable. This is why it makes sense to purchase the top of the line optics offered by us to enhance the uniformity value up to 0.8. It would satisfy the requirement of USACA. Another point that needs to be considered is anti-glare options to ensure uniformity. Since there will be thousands of spectators at the stadium, the lighting has to accommodate them by providing the right lighting level. Low glare luminary would make sure that their eyes do not get irritated and that they enjoy a clear vision of the match. High-speed photography of up to 5,000 Hz is supported by our cricket lighting.
3.Maximum Withstand Weight of Existing Poles
A common mistake that people tend to make when working on the design of the cricket field is forgetting about whether the existing poles will be able to handle the weight of the lights. Generally, the typical design of cricket grounds includes a 4 pole design. As for televised play, 6 pole designs are required. They will help improve spill lighting control.
4.IP Grade and Wind Resistance
When getting cricket Stadium lighting, IP grade and wind resistance is something that you cannot afford to overlook. Hence, you have to look for lighting that offers the latest IP grade options. It will help ensure that the lighting is durable enough to withstand tough conditions.
5.Warranty
Finally, the warranty also has to be taken into account. Choose a company like Topsports LED as we offer a higher warranty as compared to other companies. Its lighting solutions offer higher quality and provide superior performance. Make sure that there is enough warranty for the entire duration of the cricket lighting or at least half of its life. It will allow you to save up on maintenance cost.

Cricket Field Lighting Questions & Answers
1. Do Floodlights in Cricket Ground Use a lot of Electricity?
Some stadium owners may concern about running cost of the cricket field lights. We would expect that the electricity cost can be dropped dramatically after replacing the old lighting fixtures. Among LED, metal halide, halogen and mercury vapor, LED flood lights use lesser electricity because of its higher energy efficiency.
Our LED cricket lights have 150 lumens per watt, which is two times of traditional HID lights, & ten times of halogen flood lights! For instance, a 1,000 watt LED produces more-or-less the same lumens of a 10,000 watt halogen flood lamp.
Apart from lower power consumption, another advantage of using LED on cricket stadium is that lesser heat is produced. If the ambient temperature rises too high due to high power lighting, the batsman, bowler, wicket-keeper, other players & spectators would become very uncomfortable and be agitated, which affect the user experience a lot.
Believe it or not, almost 95% of energy is used to generate heat for halogen bulbs. We can imagine how hot the cricket pitch would be. Nevertheless, LED just have around 5% energy loss due to heat.
2. How Long Does the LED Cricket Lights last?
Before replacing the lighting of cricket stadium, some may also worry about if the new LED cricket stadium lights can last longer than the old ones. Apart from the cost of buying the new lamps, we need to also spend a lot on the installation. In fact, our LED stadium lights have 80,000 hours life span. In other words, if you are turning on the lamps for 6 hours per day, it lasts for 36.5 years.
Comparing with the low life span of halogen (~1000 to 2000 hours) and metal halide (~5000 to 10000 hours), we can save a lot of maintenance cost after doing the LED replacement.
3. How Much Does it Cost to Leave the Cricket Stadium Lights on All Day?
Your cricket stadium lighting running cost would be much higher if you select the wrong type of luminaires. For metal halide lights, the total power consumption is around 400,000 watt. Thus, the cost to leave the lights on for 24 hours is 400,000W x 24 hours x $0.12/1000 = $1152. For halogen flood lights, the electricity cost on lighting is 1,000,000W x 24 hours x $0.12/1000 = $2880. We can see the power consumption is higher in halogen because it has lower energy efficiency. A million watt halogen light is required to produce the same brightness of metal halide. How about LED cricket lights?
Our 100,000 watt LED cricket lights is equivalent to 400,000 watt halogen and 1,000,000 watt HID. Thus, the running cost per 100,000W lighting is $288. We can see a huge difference between the running cost of LED and conventional lighting. By retrofitting the lighting fixtures to LED, we can save tones of money to light up the cricket field.
Conclusion
The use of LED lighting technology can improve the efficiency of Cricket light energy, not only response to the resource-saving, environment-friendly social requirements, but also enhance the competitiveness and improve economic benefits.
