Smart LED Street Lighting System

LED Street lights are becoming more the norm than the exception due to lower prices, better technology and more demand for energy efficiency. With savings of our 70% compared to HIDs, Metal Halide and High Pressure sodium, the energy savings is pushing LED street lights into the very mainstream. The MH and HPS have been the dominant light sources for the last 30 years, but Light Emitting Diodes are taking over faster than ever.

When it comes to LED street lights, the concept is not just using a bulb to light the roads; instead, it requires a reliable and quality optics to ensure the road safety. There are many types of roadway luminaires, among them, the LED street lamps are the better for streets and roads. As a LED street lights manufacturer, we will discuss the use of it as well as the advantages.

WHAT ARE LED STREET LIGHTS?
Street-Lights
LED street lights are simply street lamps using LED Technology. LED street lights are integrated light emitting diodes that are used as light fixtures for street light. LED street lights use LED lights as their light source and are assembled in the form of a panel with a driver and heat sink built in. Recent advancements in LED technology have also lead to better and more efficient lighting for all types of fixtures. Not only street lights but LED Stadium lights, High Bay Lights and LED parking lot lights are also benefiting from the new technology. There are so many more options available now than simple metal halide and sodium or mercury bulbs.

WHY CHOOSE LED STREET LIGHTING?
LED Street Lights are not only popular on streets, but very popular as LED Parking lot lights in places like retail or car dealerships because of how good they look. But why is it that LED street lamps are being hailed and preferred by many in comparison with the old street light designs such as metal halide, sodium, and mercury bulbs that were conventionally used for street illuminating purposes? There are a number of reasons for that.

1.More energy efficient
Newer LED street lamp models can be 60-80% less energy than a metal halide equivalent.
40W-300W LED Street Lights produce from 5,200 lumens to 39,000 lumens. Most inner-city street lights are low wattage HPS bulbs. We have low cost, high-quality street light options, backed with either a 5 year or 10 year warranty.

2.Long life more than 50,000hrs
20 year life span ensures less changing of bulbs and reduced costs.

3.High CRI
One of the specifications you need to pay attention to is CRI (color rendering index). This is a measurement of the quality of light that the fixture is producing. It is a scale between 0 and 100. Sunlight is 100. A general rule is that you need less quantity of light if you have better quality. LED has high CRI making the quality better than most traditional light sources.

4.Better color temperature selection
We offer Street Light color temperature options in both 4000K and 5000K. 5000K is a perfect replacement for Metal Halide. 4000K is also an option for those states requiring a slightly warmer light. Other color temperatures available upon request.
Both offer a significant improvement over high pressure sodium lights, rated at 2200K. LED street lights with a CCT of 3000K – 4000K (or a little less) are the best for street lighting in residential areas. The amount of blue light they emit is small.

5.More Optics Options for Street Lights
LEDs are directional lights. Their light’s focussed and with optics lights up the intended location. They have diodes with individual optics and discharge light evenly across surfaces. Optics control the illumination pattern by delivering their designed beam pattern.
Typical road-way distribution patterns include Types 2, 3, 4 and 5. Types 3 and 5 are the most common. Which one works best for your project? Welcome to contact us for a free photometric with one of our street lights.

6.Smaller size LED Street light
LED Street Light fixtures are generally much smaller in size, allowing for easier installation and better aesthetics.

7.Tool-less access
Tool-less access allows for easy installation and maintenance processes. Clips on the bottom of the fixture allows access to drivers and other vital components.

8.Dimmable function
Another great thing about LED street lights is they can dim down. This means you can turn off or dim each street light in the absence of motion. This does not affect its lifespan but extension. And a dimmed light uses less electricity, saving you even more on your lighting bill.
Think about this. Converting Metal Halide to LED, you might switch from 400 Watts to 120W. At night, if the light dims to 10%, that means the LED is only using 12W. That’s a reduction of 388 Watts. (actually the HID lamp consumes 455W with the ballast draw, so you’re saving 443W per fixture. That’s huge!)

9.L70 Light Maintenance
Lumen maintenance relates to the lifespan of a light source. LED lights do not burn out like traditional lights. They maintain initial lumens longer. What happens is the light intensity fades gradually, but this usually takes years.
A 70% deterioration in light output is the point at which the human eye notices a decline in the intensity. But, the human eye is only affected when the light intensity of a light source reaches a level of 30%.
Used 12 hours a night, our LED Street light fixtures will provide bright, maintenance free lighting for years.

10.Reduce Light Pollution
Traditional street lamps may illuminate streets and sidewalks at night, however, they are notorious for light pollution. Light pollution is misdirected and excessive outdoor lighting. As countries and cities become more developed, the constant demand for street lighting increases the threat of light pollution.
Light pollution occurs in different ways including light trespass (light spill), sky glow, glare, and light clutter. It affects the environment as carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere. The International Dark-Sky Association states that each year, about 12 million tons of carbon dioxide are released by invasive night time lighting. The association also estimates that 30% of all street light is wasted.
Light pollution also affects the lifestyle of mammals, birds, amphibians, and insects by causing disorientation and affecting their migration, sleeping, mating, and feeding cycles. LED technology has addressed the light pollution problem by developing light fixtures that focus light only where it is required.

Conclusion
When selecting an LED street light, you must take into consideration the needs of the area you plan on installing it in. You must formulate a lighting design plan to meet those needs. The criteria for selecting the best LED spans over numerous factors, including: the number of lumens it provides, the quality of its LED chip, the total lifespan of the LED bulb, the dimming capability, dusk to dawn, photocell, surge protectors, as well as the color temperature of the light. Remember to keep the temperature around 5000K. Topsports LED offers street lights ranging from 40 watts to 300 watts. We can help you make a street lighting design that is not only awesome to look at, but cost effective as well.
